West Midlands Magic:
Modern Folklore
My intention for this work is to memorialise buildings of historic significance to my local community. I was influenced by the communal aspect of folklore and how oral storytelling can spark imagination in its ability to foster mythos around the everyday. When meeting new people I often describe myself as a ‘little townie’. Memories of summer days spent collecting shards of pottery lay dormant along the riverbed. I grew up in Worcestershire near the heritage of carpet factories, but my family's history is attached to the canal basins. I feel great pride for the industrial history of the West Midlands.

Artist Statement:
My art practice is based in multimedia and collage, inspired by visual elements of pop culture animation and folkloric horror. The theory behind my work is informed by postmodern principles of genre bending, working class experience and queer Identity.
